Emotional intelligence is comprised of the skills needed to identify and manage one’s own emotions and the emotions of others. Following are three significant skills to develop healthy emotional intelligence.
1. Awareness: Being aware of one’s own emotions and recognizing others’ emotions allow an individual to assess his or her situation and respond appropriately.
2. Control: The ability to rein in or redirect emotions can be helpful if an individual can apply the emotion to tasks like thinking and problem-solving.
3. Regulation: Managing one’s own emotions, as well as being able to change the moods of others, allows an individual to effectively guide a conversation or situation.
